Yone Noguchi
The Stream of Fate
Volume One: The Western Sea
By Edward Marx
Yone Noguchi: The Stream of Fate is the first full-length biography of the pioneering international Japanese poet Yone Noguchi (1875-1947). Volume One, The Western Sea opens in the last year of his life, with Noguchi’s postwar struggle to reconnect with his estranged son, the celebrated artist Isamu Noguchi. From there, the narrative returns to his beginnings in Meiji Japan, follows his adventurous years abroad in America and England, and concludes with his return home at the time of the Russo-Japanese War. Richly illustrated with more than 200 images, this volume also includes an introduction addressing the controversies surrounding Noguchi’s posthumous reputation.
